Samantha White did the amazing makeup while NM Beautybar did the superlative hair. Sam suggested I looked like Martha May Whovier of live-action Grinch film fame, and I’ll take it! 😉
Both of us are big fans of Anna Biller’s 2016 horror-comedy film, The Love Witch, so naturally we wanted to portray our own versions of the titular “love witch” from the movie – Elaine. We collected our spell-casting props and planned wardrobe while Marilee put together a great set reminiscent of Elaine’s apartment in the film.
Marilee’s amazing late-1960’s-inspired makeup and hair work incorporated both of Elaine’s eyeshadow looks – vintage turquoise blue for Lavinia and purple for me! In all, I think the three of us captured the bright, saturated technicolor look of the movie, which is visually reminiscent of the colorful Hammer Horror films of the 1950s and 1960s.
This is a totally fresh publication, offering some of the best modern pinup imagery by contemporary photography greats. Volume one is on sale at cost – only $9 for a bundle including both the print and .pdf versions!
Marilee Caruso and I shot some fun Black Lodge-themed cosplay images earlier this year, featuring me as Laura Palmer from David Lynch’s and Mark Frost’s quirky Twin Peaks TV show. We went for a slightly 1930s-1940s Laura as the show is known for its frequent retro visual callbacks, and – as I was 48 at the time the photos were shot – an older Laura, which is more in line with the third season of the show. The final season aired in 2017, featuring versions of all the characters aged 25 years from their original appearance during the early-90s run of the show.
Two more pinup publications this year, both with photography, makeup and hair by Marilee Caruso! My Rick’s Dessert Diner images are in the super-duper Social Pin Issue 72 (and on the back cover!) and my Lucy Westenra (of the Coppola Bram Stoker’s Dracula adaptation fame) pics are in Volume 1 of Retro Lovely‘s new Vampyre special edition!
I have two new pinup publications with some great new collaborators: Liz of Bombshell Pinup Photography and Sam of Beauty by Samantha White! Our images are featured in six-page spreads in both Retro Lovely No. 237 and Bombshell‘s February Valentine’s issue! And, we got a cover!
The first set was a lovely Gil Elvgren-inspired Valentine’s Day collection of images featuring a beautiful vintage satin comforter set acquired by Liz. I brought some cool fake roses, my vintage See’s Candy Valentine heart boxes, and a goodly chunk of my lingerie wardrobe, and here’s the result:
Sam’s makeup was amazing, Liz’s hairstyling was sublime, and my Bettie Page lingerie, What Katie Did Demi corset, vintage jewelry, trusty dusty Manolo Blahnik Sedarabys, and Catherine D’Lish lilac Cassandra robe did their jobs!
The second look was very bondage-y, inspired by our Pinup Queen, Bettie Mae Page. I brought my hand-tooled leather collar and black lingerie, and borrowed Liz’s PVC corset, shoes, and props. Sam gave me a bold red lip and Liz gave me Bettie waves. And we were off!
So here’s some fun news! I now have a Retro Lovely Showcase special edition dedicated entirely to my pinup work with great photographers like Marilee Caruso, Miss Missy, Bettina May, and Feathered Flash!
Marilee Caruso took the photos and did the glam for both sets.
The first feature (my singles from our “Brides of Dracula” vampire shoot) got six pages in volume 8, and the second (lingerie witch) received six pages and a cover for volume 9.
